Nautical Nonsense

Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board.
~Zora Neale Hurston
This week's theme for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is Nautical Nonsense.  How fun is that?  To build my ship, I used a variety of patterned papers from Crate Paper.  I don't like calling them "Scrapbook Papers", because to me, they can be used for so much more!
I cut pieces from the cardboard and covered them in patterned paper.  The ballast, or center pole of the boat was made by wrapping a pencil in washi tape.  The boat seams were also covered in washi.  (This also helped hide some of the hot glue globs)

Upload a photo of your Nautical project to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog and you could win a $50.00 gift voucher to use at the Simon Says Stamp store.  Your project could also be chosen to be featured in our Designer Spotlight.

  4. Michelle...your little ship made out of Crate Paper papers is so cute! It reminds me of a child's pull toy! I love this! Your use of the washi tape as a an accent strip and also to cover up seams is brilliant! I think my favorite part are the little pennants running up the rope. I love little details like that! So cute! <3 Candy

  14. Wonderful!! Gotta love a whale on a sail decorated with numbers. So cute. And this is such a brilliant construction. And people say that everything can be fixed with duct tape. I believe we can fix everything with Washi -- that was a great idea!! Perfect colors for the boat too. Brilliant make Michelle!! Mary Elizabeth

  21. I don't want to say that this is the most brilliant project ever, but it is pretty much the most brilliant project ever! I really loved everything about it from the color scheme to the whimsicality of adding wheels to a boat to the practicality of covering a pencil with washi. You are a rare combo of common sense and limitless artistry and this piece is incredible!
