Sketchy Smiles

I love using sketches.  Sketches for cards...sketches for scrapbook layouts....they're all fun!  Sometimes when I'm working with a sketch something magical happens and the pieces of the composition move into different places.  That's what happened here.

I received a some new stamps and dies in the mail recently and used a sketch from Unscripted Sketches as a starting point for my new toys.  (the lovely ladies at Unscripted Sketches don't seem to mind if I stray from the sketch a bit)

Somehow this poor old woman wandered into the composition.  I kept her there because I love old photos.
old photos+card sketches=lots-o-fun!

Laundry Day

Today is Monday!  That means that there's a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.  This week's theme is "Ode to Sunshine".  My project was inspired by sweet memories of hanging the laundry out to dry on beautiful sunny days.

This project was so much fun to create. I began with an old, shallow cigar box and blue acrylic paint.  The clouds were stamped in distress ink and cut into squares.  The canvas dress was painted and stamped.  A paper pinafore was made with Crate Papers DIY 6x6 pad.  And some of my Grandmothers old clothespins were used to hold the clothesline.  Grandma would've liked that. :)

This lady thinks laundry is fun no matter what the weather's like.  No, wait....Is that a glass of wine that she's holding?  Oh...nevermind.  ;)

For more great ideas please pop over to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and take a look at my fellow design team members. They have created some incredibly inspirational projects. Please sure to play along and link your "Ode to Sunshine" creation for the chance to win a $50 prize from Simon Says Stamp

Thank you for giving me a reason to use more fringe....

There is a new challenge at the Avery Elle blog.  It's their  July AEI♥U Challenge , which is based off of an adorable inspiration photo.  This is what I came up with:
I used the Oh Happy Day sentiment set and the Texture Tiles: Be Cool set.  I'm currently going through a "fringe phase". Thankfully, I could use that here because of the arrows in the inspiration photo. Otherwise I would've had to come up with a crazy excuse for putting it there. :)  And here's a closer look:

Celebrate

It's Monday!  Today there's a new challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.  This week is special for me because it's my first challenge submission as a design team member and I am so excited!  This week the theme is "Celebrate".   I  celebrated by creating a vintage inspired party hat.

Creating this was so much fun!  I started with a plain cone, some paint and stamping. I used a Tim Holtz Alterations die to create the crest and wrapped it with crepe paper. That Glitz crepe paper is so fun.  I know it's not a "newer" product, but I fell in love as I was working with it and I wish that I'd purchased it earlier. I'm quite pleased with myself that I was able to use sequins and glitter together in one project.  Bling it on! The fringe ball at the top of the hat was made using Martha Stewart fringe scissors.  The scissors are pretty awesome.  I should use them more often.  We all need a little more fringe in our lives, right? :)

My hat is a lovechild of a Martha Stewart/Tim Holtz product union.  I think that they go together quite well.

Join the celebration at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog!  Participate in the "Celebrate" challenge this week and you could be the lucky winner of our weekly random drawing for a $50.00 gift voucher.  We will also chose some of the entries to put in the spotlight and award a special badge too!

Joie de Vivre

This week I created a card for The Rubber Café with stamped images, vellum circles, and vintage elements.  Roughly translated," Joie de Vivre" means happiness of life.  Don't those little frogs look happy?

I also created a paper bow from cardstock that been stamped on with a background stamp.  Many companies are manufacturing dies to make these, but I created this bow by sketching out a rough pattern with a pencil and cutting it out with scissors.

Psychedelic Thank you

Doesn't it feel good to use some older papers lurking in your craft hoard?  I found this groovy paper from Fancy Pants and used it with the current sketch from Unscripted Sketches.

To me, fussy cutting is so much fun!  So thats what I did.  The other papers were from my scrap box.  i got lucky when I found that the ink color matched the chevron paper.  And the enamel dots matched the Fancy Pants paper too.  I 'm normally not so matchy-matchy, but it was a wonderful coincidence so I went with it.

un petit merci

Simon Says Stamp and Show is having a fun challenge this week. The challenge is to use a small stamp, or use a stamp in some small way on your project. I just purchased some new Avery Elle stamps, so that's what I used on this card today.

Each week a random winner is chosen to receive a $50.00 voucher to the Simon Says Stamp store. They will also chose some of the entries to put in the spotlight - a special honor and award a special badge too!

Happy Stamping!
