Make a Journal: A New HeARTfelt Sizzix Die

Sizzix is releasing an amazing new die that creates a journal. A real usable journal! In fact, these Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Journals are designed to be the same size as the Midori Travelers Journals. This means that all of the Midori inserts fit perfectly inside. So cool! You can customize and create these journals in any material or style you want. Today, I would like to share a couple of my journals that I made with this die.

These "Faux Dori" journals are easy to construct and do not require any sewing or bookbinding skills.
For this journal, I cut two pieces of mat board. I used the white Sizzix Little Sizzles Mat Board, but you can cut these from any material. After cutting, you can dig right in and start decorating the cover.I painted mine and then distressed it with Eileen Hull's Clearsnap ColorBox Blends Inks. These inks are one of the industry's best kept secrets. The highly pigmented inks make distressing easy to to do and the inks will not run or fade like some distressing inks.

To bind this, I used ribbon and elastic and tied them in middle of the journal. The elastic will hold in the inserts, yet allow them to be removable.
I made the inserts myself instead of purchasing them. There are numerous tutorials on how to make Midori inserts, but I will post my own at a later date.

The photo above shows how the two pieces are glued together. It also shows how the inserts were tucked in the elastic.

You can put a lot of inserts in the journal. Like the journal cover, you can embellish the inserts too.
I love that I can make a unique, one-of-a-kind journal whenever I want, with whatever I want. This month the Inspiration Team is sharing our journals. You can visit Eileen Hull Designs to see the amazing books that we've created.

I love old papers...especially photos. I made another journal with leather paper that I embossed. This journal reminds me of vintage souvenir photo albums. I love that I was able to emboss the cover and that the embossing fits perfectly across the width of the album. Simple and Easy. I'm considering making several similar journals with old family photos for holiday gifts.

Thank you for visiting!
