This project idea originated as I was throwing out the garbage. Seriously, it did! I've been making a lot of paper flowers recently and the rolls seemed too good to throw away.
I gave the cardboard tape rolls a quick base coat of acrylic paint color and then added some DecoArt Crackle Paint. This is such a fun product. It's not self-leveling, which means that you can get some really cool texture with your brushstrokes.
I think it adds a groovy 70's retro-vibe.
I used the Sizzix Romance Flower Die to cut the flower out of Sizzix Paper Leather. Then, I cut the leaf from cardstock using the Sizzix Bigz Spring Leaf Die.
If you are planning on buying only one die this season, it should be the Spring Leaf die.
The creative opportunities are endless!
I made score lines to add a bit more dimension and them painted simple line details with white paint. (Tip: You don't need a fancy scoring tool. A butter knife works just as well!) I added a top coat of metallic acrylic paint that I watered down just a bit to create a wash of color. I added the same metallic wash to the ring as well. And now comes the fun part!
Sizzix has a new tool coming out. It's called the Twist and Style Craft Tool. This thing works like magic. It twists individual strands into a decorative trim in seconds. You can twist wire, raffia, ribbon, fibers, and even fabric!
I have arthritic hands and I never would've been able to make this without the Twist and Style Craft Tool.
This new tool is a game changer.
And now I have a new set of napkin rings!
Oh Michelle!! this is simply and totally elegant!!
