Alten Riding By; A Seasonal Scene Building class with Altenew

Looking forward to warmer days? Me too! With this whimsical little card, I tried to capture the exuberance of a fun Summer day.

Continuing with my Altenew AECP journey, I took the class Seasonal Scene Building with Nichol Magouirk. The class covered many of the basics, such as masking and cutting, but there were also a few unexpected tips too.

For my card, I used the stamp set Alten Riding By for my focal image. The bear in this set is a fun stamped image that consists of many individually stamped parts.

The bear was stamped then masked, and a leafy plant and very lightly cloud stencil background were applied. I had intended to mask off the butterflies too, but I felt as if it looked too busy. They were too big. Instead, I fussy cut the butterflies from the Stamp & Paint Butterflies set and applied them on top with foam tape. This made them appear a bit more airy.

The leaves from the Botanical Line Art Craft Your Life Set and the Butterflies were both colored with watercolors. Water coloring is NOT my thing. I am a complete newbie. But if I want to improve, I must practice. So here we are.

I also felt that Alten's shirt was getting lost in the background, so using The Fine Liner Pen Set, I added some hand drawn details to make his shirt pop.

It was fun to try new things and experiment with new techniques. As for the end result; I like the childish feel to the card. It reminds me of a picture book illustration.

Thanks for being a part of my journey!

Michelle
