Celestial

This week, we've got stars in our eyes and are over the moon for Celestial projects at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.

I love this old photograph. It has the beautifully soft, vintage colors that we try to replicate with filters.
Who can resist fluffy clouds? I love that steel dies cut felt too.  And that blue watercolor paper? It's a "B" side from the Basic Grey Evergreen Christmas line.
How are you inspired by the moon and the stars? Show us what Celestial project you've created with your stamps. Link your project to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and your project could win a $50 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp.  We draw a new winner each week. Your project could also be chosen to be featured in our weekly designer spotlight.

Witch Kraft?

What? I thought she meant, "Which Craft..."

This week the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is Witch Kraft. It's never too early to celebrate the fun of Halloween with everyone's favorite Kraft brown paper. Or will you interpret the challenge differently? I did! I combined several different crafts and interests into one project. Which Craft? Well, take a look!
I utilized stamping, scrapbooking, hand-sewing and my love of vintage photos in this layout. I adore this endearing old photo. It's an image of a wake from a boat. This is an original vintage photo that was taken during an era when camera film was expensive and every click of the shutter was risky. Whoever took this picture must've been feeling unusually free and creative and wanted to remember that moment. The Glitz Designs embellishment states "I am the Master of my Fate and the Captain of My Soul." Perfect sentiment! I highlighted it by cutting a doily using a punch with the Martha Stewart circle edge punch starter set.
Translucent grunge circles were created by stamping and embossing on vellum before being sewn to the paper.

And the bee is cut and embossed with a Tim Holtz Sizzix die and folder.
Now it's your turn!

It was the best picnic...

Family....
The word "Family" means many different things to different people. What do you think of? Your ancestors? Your children? Where you live? This week, the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is to create a project the conveys Family. I created a page in my art journal for this challenge. When I think of family, I think of our family dinner table; a time when we come together to discuss and share.
My project started with a page that was removed from an old children s book. I love this illustration and I wanted to incorporate it in my journal. I encountered two major obstacles with this project. The first problem was composition because I was attempting to keep the page whole. I wanted to be able to see the illustration and read some of the text. The second obstacle was trying to create this project with limited supplies. We were in the process of moving when I created this and many of my supplies and tools were packed away, so I had to use what I had on hand. (note: I never did find my glue. How weird is that?)

This silhouette was done in red instead of traditional black. I wanted to add some much needed color. All of the papers were from the BasicGrey Herbs and Honey line. It's all that I had available at the time, so I'm glad that they worked well. :)
